The 74HC4046AD,653 from Nexperia is a high-speed Si-gate CMOS phase-locked loop with an integrated voltage-controlled oscillator. For selection, the device features a center frequency up to 17MHz typical at 4.5V, with a VCO section operating from 3.0V to 6.0V and its digital section from 2.0V to 6.0V. The choice of three phase comparators—an EXCLUSIVE-OR gate, an edge-triggered JK flip-flop, and an edge-triggered RS flip-flop—provides design flexibility in a single SOIC-16 package. Excellent VCO linearity, low frequency drift, and a VCO-inhibit control for ON/OFF keying ensure low standby power consumption. In application, the device excels in FM modulation and demodulation, frequency synthesis and multiplication, tone decoding, and data synchronization and conditioning.
